How do you wash/clean a handmade playmat?

My sister in law made my daughter a playmat as a gift. It’s got a vinyl like material on one side, and a quilt like pattern on the other with cotten in between. Bright colors and very beautiful. I asked her how to wash it ans she didn’t even know, lol. I tried to wash it one on the gentle cycle, and my machine basically tore the quilt like pattern in differnent spots. I am getting it repaired but I want to know how to wash it so it won’t happen again…I want this playmat to last a long time since it was family made.

How can I remove black rubber stains from handmade Saltillo Tile?

The stains are from 2 things, a rubber mat beneath the treadmill which had been in place a couple of years and some from a stainless waste basket with a rubber gasket on the bottom. It sticks each time I use it or move it. I’ll check to see if I can remove the gasket and still use the waste basket. I have tried some household cleaners and even WD-40. Help please!

How best to clean a handmade quilt?

My grandmother gave me a handmade quilt that is old but in very good shape. The problem is that it has an odor from being stored for so long. I’m anxious to put it on our guest bed but I don’t want to damage it by washing it. I have tried airing it out for a couple of days and then put it in the dryer on a no heat, air only setting with a dryer sheet. Neither helped. Any suggestions?

How do I shrink handmade wool slippers?

How would you wash a handmade crocheted blanket without damaging it?

My baby got a beautiful handmade crocheted blanket as a gift and I want to wash it before she uses it, but I don’t want to damage it. Any suggestions?
I’ll probably only use it on special occasions, like pictures and Easter (it has crosses on it) and things like that. But I need to wash it before she uses it the first time, of course.
